Another priority in Santa Cruz is economic development which is a government policy to increase the economic, social welfare and ensuring a stable political environment. One of the main ways of strengthening the economy is through the support of new and existing businesses and there are many resources that the City and County have provided to help.

Other resources regarding Economic Development within Santa Cruz County include the BAE urban economics, which has information on demographics, economics, real estate market, and an analysis of future projections in the county and the Santa Cruz County Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, approved in 2015, which is a 5-year plan that outlines the economic development goals of our community.

Capital Projects
The Capital Projects Division of the Public Works Department provides support and project management services for a variety of public works facilities as well as other departments managing capital improvement projects.  These projects are just one way the County of Santa Cruz improves the economic development of the cities within the county.

City of Santa Cruz 
With a land area of 12.7 square miles, Santa Cruz  is the most populous incorporated city in the Santa Cruz County. The Economic Development Office in the City of Santa Cruz aims to increase and support viable, sustainable, and innovative economic activities throughout the city by supporting businesses with the necessary tools and resources. City of Watsonville
Watsonville, California is known for its long and rich heritage as a center for agro-business. What many may not know is that Watsonville is a proving ground for entrepreneurs and businesses from all types of industries and emerging technologies. Its central location, nestled between the Monterey Bay and the Santa Cruz mountains, offers growing companies quick and easy highway access, while avoiding daily traffic snarls. Watsonville’s location is topped only by its ideal climate and the rustic, small town charm of a close-knit rural community. City of Capitola
With only encompassing 2 square miles, Capitola is the smallest incorporated city in the Santa Cruz County. Located just south of Santa Cruz, Capitola is best known for its Venetian townhouses, shops, bistros, and amazing views from the Wharf. Below are the current projects and project proposals within the city of Capitola to ensure the economic development within city and the county. City of Scotts Valley 
Located in the western region of the Santa Cruz mountains, Scotts Valley is a small suburban community with a historical past. Once a stagecoach stop between San Jose and Santa Cruz, Scott Valley's history goes back as far as 150 years. Below is a list of current projects that are through the Planning Department of Scotts Valley who is responsible for long term-planning regarding growth and development of the city.

Aptos is known for its scenic Seascape community and beautiful homes. This oceanside town features redwood trails leading to beaches with a population of just under 10,000, Aptos provides a rich small-town feel with much to do.
