The Santa Cruz County's mild Mediterranean style climate and luscious soil make for extraordinary wines.  In 1981 the Santa Cruz Mountains Viticultural Appellation became federally recognized.  According to the Santa Cruz Mountain Winegrower's Association, the Santa Cruz Mountain appellation is one of America's first to be defined by geophysical and climate factors.
